TIL a standard business card needs .125 inches of bleed, not .25, and I wasted a whole box of paper stock
I was setting up a card file for a local band last Tuesday and just guessed at the bleed, went with a quarter inch all the way around because it seemed safer. Printed 250 sheets of my nice 110lb matte stock and every single one came out with the trim cutting into the border art. Turns out the actual standard is .125 inch on each side, so I had double the bleed I needed and my crop marks were in the wrong spot. Found this out from a free template PDF on a paper company's site, felt pretty dumb. Anyone else learn a basic spec the hard way after already burning through materials?
