Found out my grout lines were way too big after looking at an old house
I was at my sister's place in Philly last weekend. She bought a row home built in 1920. The tile in her kitchen had these tiny grout lines, like 1/16 inch. I always thought bigger grout lines were standard. I looked it up when I got home. Turns out 1/8 inch is normal for most tile now, but I've been using 1/4 inch spacers for years. No wonder my backsplash always looked clunky. Has anyone else switched to smaller spacers and regretted it?

Ha, welcome to the club of people who learned the hard way that bigger isn't always better. I made the same mistake on my first bathroom reno and it looked like I used leftover spacers from a patio job. Now I stick with 1/8 inch and the tiles actually look like they belong together instead of floating in a sea of grout.

Fr fr, 1/8 inch is the sweet spot for everything now.
