My neighbor said my new deck looked like a 'giant cheese grater'
I just finished building a deck with a composite floor that had a really deep, linear grain texture. My neighbor Frank came over, looked at it, and said, 'Looks great, but from my porch it looks like a giant cheese grater.' I laughed, but then I stood back and he was totally right. The strong lines in the bright sun made it look weirdly industrial. I ended up adding a big outdoor rug and some potted plants to break up the pattern. Has anyone else gotten a piece of feedback that made you totally see your project differently?

My friend's deck had that same issue, so she stained the boards a darker color to soften the lines.
