Rant: open shelving in kitchens is a dust farm and I'm done pretending it looks good
I pulled 14 plates off my open shelves in Salem last weekend and every single one had a greasy film on it from cooking smoke. Everyone on Pinterest acts like open shelves are this airy design win, but unless you run your exhaust fan every single time you sear anything, you're just building a display case for grime. Anyone here actually keep open shelves and stay on top of the cleaning, or did you all cave and add doors like I'm about to?
Ha, the grease thing is real but I gotta push back a little, exhaust fans help but they are not the whole story. A lot of that film comes from what you cook and how, like high heat with cheap oil mists up everything nearby whether you vent or not, in my experience anyway. So yeah, doors are one fix, but wiping stuff down every week or two matters more than most people admit, take that with a grain of salt.
