Just overheard someone say sketching by hand is dead, then watched them fight with a stylus for 20 minutes

Was grabbing coffee near my coworking spot and heard two designers arguing. One said digital only is the way now. The other showed them a quick napkin sketch that solved the layout problem in 2 seconds. I side with the napkin guy. But I also use Procreate daily. So where's the line? Do you still sketch rough ideas on paper first or are you all-in digital from the start?

Digital is faster in the long run and paper just adds an extra step. You can undo, resize, and duplicate on a tablet in seconds. Paper forces you to start over if your proportions are off. The napkin trick only works for simple stuff. Try sketching a complex UI layout or a 3D perspective on a napkin and see how far that gets you. The stylus struggle is just a learning curve, same as learning to draw with a pencil.

Yeah, the "just a learning curve" part really hit home... I remember how long it took me to feel half decent with a stylus, it's not like it just clicks overnight.
