A/B tested my portfolio header with a $50 Facebook ad, got clear winner in 2 hours
I was stuck between two different hero layouts so I threw $50 at a quick A/B test on Facebook. The simpler one with a single sentence got 3x the clicks compared to the one with stats and numbers. Anyone else find that less is more when it comes to first impressions?

What made you pick those two specific layouts to test against each other? It feels like testing the two extremes might've been a bit of a gamble for only $50. Were you leaning towards the simpler one before the test, or did the results genuinely surprise you?

Launched into this test pretty clueless if I'm being honest (which is kind of my default state honestly). I was leaning toward the simpler layout but mainly because I'm lazy and hate dealing with too many options, not because I had any real data to back it up. The results genuinely surprised me though, like finding out your favorite shirt has a hole in it but the backup is actually way more comfortable. The complex layout was basically a mess of buttons and sliders, think a spaceship control panel designed by someone who's never flown a spaceship. The simpler one won by a landslide, which probably says more about my bad instincts than anything else.
