Is showing process shots actually hurting my portfolio? Recent client feedback says yes
I submitted my updated portfolio to a design director in Austin last week and she flat out said my 14 case studies were too long because of all the process documentation. She said she only skimmed the final screens and the client quote, while I put like 40% of each page into sketches, wireframes, and iteration notes. That got me thinking, are we padding portfolios to look thorough when hiring folks just want the polished result? On the flip side I got a freelance gig 3 months ago because the client loved seeing the messy middle of my logo exploration. So which is it, do process sections build trust or waste time? Has anyone else trimmed their process shots and seen better response rates or the opposite?
