Overheard a hiring manager trash my portfolio PDF at a coffee shop
Sitting in a cafe on 8th Street in Austin, two people behind me were critiquing portfolios for a junior designer role. One said my file naming was 'fine' but the cover page wasted 12 seconds of their morning. That comment made me strip my portfolio down to 8 projects from 14, and I put the strongest piece first instead of my favorite. Has anyone else changed their order based on random feedback from strangers?

Cutting from 14 to 8 is the move honestly. Did the same thing after a friend who hires designers told me nobody gets past project 5 anyway, so front loading is everything. Putting your strongest piece first probably helps way more than the cover page thing, sounds like that person was just cranky before coffee.
