Serious question, has a design system talk ever made things super awkward for you?

Honestly, I was helping a buddy with his online store and we put together a basic design system. In a group call, his cousin started picking apart the layout choices and it got real quiet for a minute. Tbh, it was so uncomfortable that someone fake-coughed to break the tension. Now I'm worried about bringing up any more changes. How do you handle it when people get defensive over small stuff like spacing? Ngl, I feel stuck and could use some tips from folks who've been there.

Awkward calls mean people care. Use that feedback to make things better. Don't hold back on changes.

Yikes, that sounds rough. What part of the layout set your friend's cousin off, was it really just the spacing? @the_leo has a point about people caring, but how do you turn that into a talk that doesn't freeze everyone up.

People get way too hung up on caring as an excuse. Awkward calls often mean the feedback itself is bad, not that it's heartfelt. If someone blows up over font spacing, that's a them problem, not a useful note. Walker.thomas is right to ask what actually set them off, because sometimes the core issue is just someone being difficult. You can't build a good talk around that kind of noise, it just makes the whole team scared to share anything.
