Spent 3 hours aligning text in a newsletter template only to realize I had the wrong font installed the whole time
Was sitting in my home office last Tuesday, proud of my pixel-perfect layout, when I sent a test print to my Epson and the kerning looked like a ransom note, so I triple-checked everything before noticing the font file was actually from a draft folder from 2019.

Three hours, man. I lost a whole afternoon last month to something similar - spent forever getting the perfect spacing in a menu template only to realize I was looking at the wrong version of Helvetica. The letters were all slightly off and I thought I was losing my mind. It's the worst when you've been staring at the screen so long your eyes start to cross and you still can't figure out what's wrong. At least you caught it before you sent out a hundred copies to clients, ask me how I know that one hurts.

Flip that around and think about it differently, maybe the wrong Helvetica actually looked better and you were just chasing perfection for no reason. I've definitely settled for a close enough font before and nobody ever noticed, so sometimes you're just making work for yourself. Honestly the hundred copies thing might sting but it's also proof that these tiny details don't matter as much as we think.
