TIL that the color wheel was invented by a poet, not a painter

I was reading an old design book my cousin gave me, and it said Sir Isaac Newton came up with the first color wheel in 1704 to study light and optics. That blew my mind because I always assumed some artist like Johannes Itten or someone made it for mixing paint. Has anyone else run into a design fact that completely changed how you see a basic tool?

Same here. I always thought an artist designed it. Newton changed my whole view.

Newton invented it for SCIENCE, not art. Wild.
