Quit using layer comps last month after a decade of forcing them
I always thought layer comps were the professional way to manage design variations. Then I tried Figma's component variants during a branding project for a local bakery last Tuesday. Switching between button states and color themes became a two click thing instead of combing through a dropdown menu. Has anyone else dropped an old Adobe habit after trying something newer?

Hold on, let's not act like swapping tools is some life-changing event. Yeah, switching button states feels smoother in Figma, but layer comps still get the job done for printable documents like brochures. Felt like you were fighting an uphill battle for a decade because you never bothered to sort your layer names, honestly.

You know what, I used to be on the other side of this argument. I had a folder full of brochures where I just labeled everything "Layer 1 copy" and thought layer comps were good enough for anyone. But then I had to go back and update a 20 page catalog six months later and spent three hours just figuring out which hidden layer had the right image. It changed my mind pretty fast.

Layer names, what are those?" said no one who's ever had to find anything.
