Can we talk about finding the right glue for a laminate desktop?

I spent 3 hours last weekend trying to glue down a new laminate top for my standing desk and nothing stuck because I used the wrong contact cement. Turns out you need the spray kind with a 30 minute cure time and I was using the brush-on stuff for tile work lol. Anyone else waste a whole afternoon on something that should have taken 20 minutes?

Oh man I feel this so hard. I used the brush-on contact cement from the hardware store on my first laminate desk and the whole thing peeled up by Tuesday. Those spray cans with the 30 minute cure time are honestly a game changer. You gotta do two coats and wait until it's tacky before pressing it down too. That stuff bonds like crazy.

Wait, are you doing two coats on both the laminate and the substrate, or just one side? I always wondered if that double-coat thing is overkill or actually makes a difference.
