Got told my torque wrench method was wrong on a Detroit Series 60
An old timer at the shop in Billings saw me setting the wrench to 210 ft-lbs for head bolts and said 'You're pulling it wrong, you'll snap one.' He showed me to set it 10 pounds under, pull once to seat it, then go to the full spec. I've been doing it his way for about four months now and haven't had a single issue. Anyone else get a tip that flipped a basic job for them?

Honestly, that sounds like overkill to me. If the wrench is properly calibrated and you pull smooth, you should hit the spec in one go. Feels like an extra step for a problem that isn't really there.

Tell that to the head gasket I blew on a "properly calibrated" one-pull job last year.
