How I finally got clean cuts around floor registers
Last month, I had a job with floor registers in all sorts of sizes and shapes. My usual quick cut with shears left ragged edges that looked bad. An older installer saw me and shared his trick. He told me to trace the register outline with chalk on the carpet back first. Then, cut from the backside using a fresh utility blade, going slow along the chalk line. I tried it, and WOW, the cuts came out PERFECT with no fraying at all. Now I use this on every install and it saves me so much time. Do you guys have other methods for tricky vents or obstacles like these?
