Pro tip: I tried a cheap aftermarket fuel filter on a 6.7 Powerstroke and it actually ran smoother

Everyone says you have to use OEM filters, but I got a generic one from the parts store last week and the idle vibration dropped noticeably. Has anyone else had a good experience with a specific aftermarket brand, or did I just get lucky?

OEM is mostly paying for the name on the box. The real key is the micron rating. If the aftermarket filter matches the factory spec for particle size, it works the same. A lot of those generic ones come from the same factories anyway. Your truck running smoother proves the point. People get scared into buying the expensive stuff. Just check the specs before you buy.

Honestly, it's one filter change on one truck. Could be a fluke or maybe your old filter was just extra clogged. Tbh I've seen cheap filters fail way early and cause rough starts in cold weather. Not saying you need the crazy expensive stuff, but there's a reason shops stick with known brands. Sometimes saving twenty bucks now costs more later.
