Took me 4 hours to set up a reliable VPN on my Router in Bangkok
I thought it would be a quick 20 minute job but ended up messing with the wrong DNS settings and losing internet for an entire afternoon has anyone else had a simple tech fix turn into a whole day project?

Bangkok ISPs can be brutal with DNS hijacking. Had a similar issue when I tried using a different DNS server and it just kept redirecting to True's login page. Ended up flashing the router firmware entirely which took way longer than planned. The VPN on router thing is a solid setup though once you get past the headaches.

Flashing the firmware is a beast, yeah, but I think people jump to that too fast. I'd rather just run DNS over HTTPS or TLS on the client side, no router changes needed. That way if True or AIS tries to redirect me, it just fails back to a public resolver instead of their captive portal. Saves a lot of weekend tinkering. The VPN on the router is fine if you're in a cafe or hotel, but for a home setup with multiple devices, a Pi-hole with DoH has been way less headache for me.
