Stubborn clay in the Willamette finally gave up after I ran the pump at 70% for a full day to let it settle first.
Everyone says to just power through the muck, but after three tries of clogged lines, I slowed the whole operation down and let the solids drop out in the pond before the intake, which saved me a weekend of jetting.

Is it really that deep though? I've hit Willamette clay more times than I can count and just ran the pump full bore through it without any fancy settling tricks. Seems like a lot of extra time for something that usually works itself out with a little patience.

Slowing it down is the real trick. Letting the pump just stir the pond for a while first makes all the difference. Saves so much headache later.
