Caught a ceiling joist splitting mid-hang on a Reno job in Bellingham

Heard a sharp crack while screwing a 12 foot sheet and saw the joist pulling apart. We sistered in a new 2x8 with construction adhesive and 3 inch screws before finishing the hang. Anyone else had to fix framing on the fly like that?

Yeah, that's the kind of surprise no one wants. @rose_craig70 is right about the long sheet, it's like everything feels fine until it very suddenly isn't. Makes you wonder what else is just barely holding together out there.

Honestly the "barely holding together" thing feels overblown. Most stuff is way more solid than we give it credit for. That long sheet held for ages, right? It did its job until one specific thing went wrong. We focus on the rare breaks and ignore all the things working fine every day. It's not some big mystery, just normal wear and tear.

Yikes, that's a long sheet to be hanging...
