I finally talked to a structural engineer about ceiling deflection and it changed how I look at hanging board

Had a beer with a buddy who's a structural engineer last Friday and he told me that most of the cracks we see in tape joints come from the framing settling more than bad mud work, and now I'm second-guessing every ceiling I've ever hung.

Yeah I heard something similar, something about truss uplift being the real culprit in a lot of drywall cracks.

Not quite the whole story though. Truss uplift is real for sure but it mostly causes ceiling cracks, not wall cracks usually. Wall cracks are more often from the foundation settling or just bad drywall work honestly.
