Finally found a trick for dealing with sticky relays

I had this one Otis elevator in a building downtown that kept throwing relay faults every few weeks. Changed the relay twice, still got intermittent failures. Finally took a closer look and noticed the relay contacts had this thin film on them. Tried cleaning them with a dollar bill instead of sandpaper or contact cleaner. Worked like a charm on that 1980s model. Has anyone else tried weird cleaning methods that actually did the job?

Hell yeah, dollar bills are surprisingly good for that lol.

Hard disagree honestly. Dollar bills are terrible for rolling compared to actual papers. They have all that dirt and grime built up from thousands of hands, plus the ink can flake off which tastes awful. Not to mention the whole defacing currency thing is technically illegal even if nobody gets busted for it. Real rolling papers are like two bucks for a pack of 50 and burn way more even. Why would you risk smoking who knows what kind of bacteria just to save a couple cents?

Wait, you actually washed and ironed a dollar bill before using it to roll? That's honestly kind of wild to me. @jordangibson has a point about the dirt though, even if I might not be as strict about it.
