Finally got that stubborn Otis Gen2 door operator to stop hunting

Been fighting with one in a Portland office building for a week, where it kept creeping open a few inches and closing again. Tried adjusting the door force and the position sensors, nothing stuck. On a hunch, I cleaned the encoder strip on the motor with a bit of isopropyl and a microfiber cloth, something I usually skip. It's been solid for three days now. Anyone else find those strips get dirty way faster than you'd think?

Our strip in Seattle gets that same film every few months.

Yeah, makes you wonder how many service calls are just for a dirty sensor. Bet half of those "broken" readers just need a quick wipe.

Oh man, that's a solid find. I bet the building's HVAC is kicking up all kinds of dust and oily film right onto that strip. Seen it before where the air return is right by the door, basically turning it into a dirt magnet. That tiny bit of grime is enough to scramble the signal. Good call on the iso wipe, that's a cheap fix that gets overlooked way too often.
