Lost my wrench in the elevator pit, but a magnet on a string got it back. Felt like a genius.

That elevator pit is no joke, way too easy to get hurt down there. A magnet was smart for the wrench, but you really need to kill the power first. My uncle works building maintenance and says people forget the pit is a full machine room. It's clever, but next time maybe just call the super and avoid the risk entirely.

Watching people skip safety steps for small conveniences drives me nuts. They'll stand on a wobbly office chair instead of grabbing a ladder, or try to fix a toaster without unplugging it first. We treat huge risks as no big deal just because the bad thing hasn't happened to us yet. That elevator pit is a perfect example, a hidden danger we ignore until a phone or a wrench disappears into it.

Remember when my friend dropped her phone down that gap between the elevator and the floor? Your point about calling the super, @julia_wood, is spot on because we had to wait for him with this special grabber tool. The whole thing took forever and I think the phone survived but it was completely smashed. Makes you wonder what else people have lost down those shafts, right?
