Overheard a client say she only washes her face with bar soap
Was working on a client yesterday and her friend sitting nearby mentioned she uses plain bar soap from the grocery store to wash her face. I kept my mouth shut because it wasn't my client, but I almost choked on my water. She said she's been doing it for 5 years and her skin looks fine. I get that some people get lucky genetics, but how many of you have run into clients who swear by something that makes you cringe? Did you try to educate them or just let it go?

Oh man, that bar soap thing makes me cringe so hard. I've had clients tell me they use dish soap or hand soap on their face and I just have to bite my tongue. The skin barrier thing is real, some people just get lucky with genetics but most of us would dry out like a raisin. You did the right thing by keeping quiet though, it wasn't your client so you can't just jump in. I tried to gently educate a friend once about her stripping face wash and she got super defensive so now I just let people do their thing until they ask. It's tough watching someone wreck their skin but unsolicited advice rarely goes well.

Has anyone else ever tried saving money by using something totally wrong on their face? I once washed my face with dish soap during a camping trip and it felt like I'd rubbed sandpaper all over my cheeks for a week. Some people just have superhero skin genetics I guess, but mine definitely did not get that memo.
