Saw a house in Savannah with a painted brick porch and it totally changed my mind
I always thought brick had to stay its natural color, but this deep charcoal made the whole entryway pop. Has anyone else tried painting exterior brick and had it hold up over a few seasons?

My neighbor's painted brick still looks great after five Georgia summers.

That's awesome to hear about your neighbor's place. Prep is definitely the key, like the_nina said. A dark color like navy can hold up, but it usually fades a bit faster than a lighter shade in that strong sun. The quality of the paint itself makes a huge difference too. A good elastomeric paint can handle the brick expanding and contracting way better.

Yeah, five years is a good sign. My cousin went with a really dark navy on her brick in Charleston, and the key was the prep work. They cleaned it super well and used a high-quality masonry primer first. It's been through some serious humidity and still looks solid, no peeling or chalky fade. It makes the white trim and her front door just jump out at you.
