I'm convinced those fancy laser levels are a total waste of cash for most residential jobs.

I dropped $350 on one for a kitchen reno in Tempe, only to have it fail halfway through and set me back a full day while I went back to my trusty old 4-foot level and chalk line.

My main project manager quit on a Tuesday with 3 active client projects in the middle.

I had to personally take over all their Slack channels and Asana boards for a month while scrambling to hire a replacement, which basically meant I did two full jobs at once and barely slept. Has anyone else had a key person bail without notice and how did you handle the handoff without everything falling apart?

Just learned something wild about color contrast from a local library flyer

I was picking up a flyer for a kids' reading program at my library in Springfield and noticed the text was super easy to read. I ran it through a contrast checker on my phone out of curiosity. The light blue on white background had a ratio of 3.2:1, which is above the minimum for large text but not for small. The librarian told me they use a free tool called Colorable for all their community stuff. It blew my mind that a small town library is that on top of it. Has anyone else had a moment where a simple local thing just got the contrast totally right?

My local shop keeps calling the new Spider-Man comic a 'first appearance' and it's not

I saw a copy of Amazing Fantasy #15, the real first Spider-Man, priced at over 20 grand in a display case. Then the clerk pointed to a recent reprint issue and called it a 'key first appearance' for new collectors. That's just wrong, it's a reprint. It matters because people might pay big money thinking they're getting something they're not. Has anyone else seen shops or sellers blurring the line between a real first print and a later version?

TIL a $120 borescope saved my bacon on a 'no-start' diagnosis

Customer's car had a crank, no start, and all the usual sensors checked out. I snaked the camera down a spark plug hole and found a bent valve staring right back at me, saved hours of pulling the head for nothing. Anyone else have a cheap tool that's paid for itself ten times over?
