Burned $150 on a 'magic' fabric that just fell apart

I got excited about this new 'self-healing' knit for a sweater design, but after one wash the seams just shredded. The material cost me $150 and now I have to scrap the whole project. Anyone know a good, durable knit that can actually handle being worn?

Ugh, this "miracle material" scam is everywhere now, from clothes to cookware.

Maybe it was just a bad batch? I've had cheap fabric hold up better than expensive stuff sometimes. What did the care tag say?
