I just finished my 50th sketch for a single collection idea
Started with one dress design, but kept seeing new ways to tweak the sleeves and neckline. After about 20 drawings, I thought I was done, but then I kept going. Hitting 50 total sketches showed me how many small changes you can make to one basic shape. It really pushed the idea further than I thought it could go. Has anyone else had a project where the number of drafts totally surprised you?

Totally get what you mean about pushing one basic shape. I read this interview where a songwriter said they wrote like 80 versions of a single chorus. It wasn't about making it perfect, it was about knowing they had tried every possible option. That's what your 50 sketches sounds like. You exhaust all the little changes so you know for sure which one is right. It's wild how far you can stretch one starting point.

Love that songwriting comparison. It really is about trying every path so you know you picked the right one. Makes the final choice feel solid.
