Heard a homeowner call our glue-down vinyl 'the fancy sticker floor' yesterday. Made me laugh.
Was finishing up a job in a suburb outside Phoenix. The client was showing their neighbor. The neighbor pointed at the planks and said, 'Oh, you got the fancy sticker floor. Looks good.' I had to bite my tongue. We spent two days prepping that slab. Ever get a totally wrong but kinda funny name for your work from a customer?

That "fancy sticker floor" comment is a classic one. It happens more than you'd think with glue down products. The trick is to take it as a weird compliment. They see a perfect, seamless floor and their brain goes to the simplest thing they know. It actually means you did the prep right and the install looks that clean. I just smile and say thanks, then maybe add a quick line about how the glue system is what makes it stay flat and quiet for the long haul. Correcting them never feels worth it.

Yeah the part about their brain going to the simplest thing is so true. It's like @josephs26 said, people do this with all kinds of skilled work. They see a great result and reduce it down to something they understand, like a sticker or just paint. It misses the whole process. I see it as a sign that things look effortless now, which means the hard part is hidden. That's the real win, even if the comment feels a bit off.
