Rant: The way we handle plank transitions is totally different now

Honestly, ten years ago we'd just butt a new floor right up to the old one and call it a day. After a job in Tempe last month where the homeowner pointed out a height difference I couldn't ignore, I started using a proper t-mold every single time. Has anyone else had a client get picky about that kind of detail recently?

My buddy Jake did a whole condo reno in Scottsdale last spring. He used to just feather the transition with a sander, said it was fine for years. The new owner had a friend who was a home inspector come over before closing. That guy got down on his hands and knees with a digital level and measured every single doorway. Jake had to go back and install reducers at three different spots. He doesn't cut corners on transitions anymore.

That inspector sounds like the kind of guy who brings a laser thermometer to Thanksgiving dinner to check if the turkey is done. Jake learned the hard way that someone will always notice the stuff you think you can hide. Good on him for fixing it, but man, that's a rough way to find out your feathering job wasn't as smooth as you thought. Bet he triple checks his transitions with a level now too.

What's the point of a digital level for a doorway?
