Shoutout to the menu design at that little cafe in Portland
Honestly, I was at The Daily Grind on 3rd Avenue last week and their menu just looked so good. They paired a bold, chunky serif for the coffee names with this really clean, thin sans-serif for the descriptions. Ngl, it made me want to try designing a cafe menu myself. Has anyone else seen a font combo in the wild that just worked perfectly?

Bold, chunky serif with a clean sans-serif" is basically the holy grail of menu design. I read a blog post that called that combo the "trust me, then tell me" approach.

Trust me, then tell me" is such a good way to put it. I always thought mixing fonts looked messy, but that phrase actually makes a lot of sense.

Ah nah, you guys are mixing up the "trust me then tell me" thing slightly. That phrase actually means the bold font grabs attention and the clean font gives the details, not that one font style is better than the other. It's more about using the bold font to get people to trust the item name first, then the clean font explains what it is.
