My mural painting side hustle taught me a HARD lesson about deposits.
I agreed to paint a mural for a cafe without asking for a deposit first. After finishing, the owner changed their mind and refused to pay. Now I'm out materials and time. Do you ALWAYS use contracts for creative gigs?

I once agreed to illustrate a children's book for a vague promise of royalties. Never saw a dime. These days, my contract is longer than the book itself. It has clauses for everything, including what happens if the client's cat ruins the sketch.

What about a dog eating the contract?

A clause for the client's cat ruining a sketch seems a bit much, lol. Most people are pretty reasonable about stuff like that without needing it in writing. You might be overthinking the whole contract thing.
