I stopped giving away books after I lost a family recipe

I used to toss books out to keep things simple. Then I tried to cook my mom's stew and my recipe book was gone. Now I keep books that matter to me, even if they take up space. My place is not as empty, but it feels more like home. I guess minimalism can mean having less, but keeping what counts.

My grandma's cookie recipe vanished after I lent the book, so now I hoard cookbooks too.

Great aunt's cake recipe went missing in 2010. I make copies on my phone now. Never letting a cookbook out of my sight again.

Actually, digital copies are smart but something hits different about a handwritten note in the margins. Those stains and scribbles become part of the memory.
