My block's split over turning garages into living spaces

In my area, a lot of houses are changing their garages into bedrooms or offices. Homeowners argue it's an easy way to get more room and maybe sell for more, but some neighbors say it makes the street look cluttered and could be against local codes. Have you dealt with this, and is it a smart move for future sales?

Whoa, careful with that idea. In my experience, turning a garage into a room without the right permits can actually hurt your future sale, big time. I've seen buyers walk away because they found out the work wasn't legal, or the city made people tear it all out. That extra room might not be worth the fines or the hassle.
