DAE remember when swapping true crime theories with strangers was just small talk? | True Crime Sleuths

I used to chat about local mysteries with cashiers or people in line, and it felt like passing time. Now everyone has a hot take or a deep dive podcast ready to go, which can turn a quick chat into a lecture. Do you find it harder to have light conversations about crime stuff with people you just met?

You've got a point there, the deeper talks can be more fun.

Isn't it possible that the deeper talks are actually better? I used to get tired of hearing the same surface level stuff about cases everyone already knew. Now when someone at the coffee shop brings up a case, they might have heard a new piece of evidence from a podcast or read a theory online that actually makes me think. That random chat about a local cold case last week turned into a real back and forth because we'd both done some reading. It feels less like gossip and more like a shared puzzle.

But doesn't all that homework kill the casual vibe?
