inPro tip: I saw my old gas bill from 3 years ago and it hit me
Those kits are a game changer for old windows. Put a hair dryer on low to smooth out the film, gets rid of wrinkles and makes the seal way tighter.

inPro tip: I went with a dark gray roof on my house in Phoenix and everyone said it was a bad idea
But you're missing the point where he actually LIKES his house now. Paying a little extra for something you enjoy looking at every single day is worth it. Those shingles are rated for decades anyway, so a few years difference is a future problem. My buddy did the same thing in Tucson and his AC is totally fine.

inJust figured out why my coax crimps kept failing after 6 months
Oh man, that's a solid catch. I totally would have just blamed a bad batch of connectors or something. I used to think a crimp was a crimp, you know, as long as it looked tight and passed a tug test. But after having a VOR needle get a little swimmy on me, I learned the hard way that the tiny specs really do matter. Your tech just saved you a future headache for sure.

inA plumber at my local bar said something about pipe dope that stuck with me
Actually that plumber's advice sounds a bit off to me. Teflon tape done right won't shred if you wrap it the correct way and don't use too much. The paste can be messy and it's a pain to take apart later if you need to fix something. I've used tape on gas lines for twenty years without a single leak or clog. Sometimes the old way is the old way for a good reason.
