Can we talk about how quiet the barn gets when you're alone with a horse and a forge?
I was shoeing a mare yesterday, and it hit me how different it feels from when I started. Back then, my mentor would have the radio blaring classic rock, and we'd shout over it. Now, I prefer the silence, just the sound of the hammer and the horse breathing. I think it lets me focus better on the fit and the animal's comfort. In the past, we relied more on feel and less on gadgets. Today, everyone has digital angle finders and such, but sometimes I miss judging by eye. That quiet time makes me connect more with the horse. Do you ever turn off the noise to just listen?
