Fired my worst client 6 months ago, my shop in Boise is up 40% since
I ran a 3 person shop in Boise and we kept this one account that ate up probably 60% of my time for about 12% of revenue. Back in March I finally cut them loose after their PM yelled at one of my guys over a Friday afternoon Slack message, and I told her we were done that same day. Scared the hell out of me since it was our biggest logo, but we replaced the money in 9 weeks with two smaller retainer clients who actually answer emails. If you have that one client you dread seeing in your inbox, what's actually stopping you from dropping them?
What made you finally pull the plug, was it the yelling thing or had you been thinking about it for a while before that? I ask because most people I know sit on that decision for months, sometimes years. They tell themselves the logo matters, or the cash is too good to lose, but really it's just fear of the unknown. Did you have anything lined up before you cut them, or did you just jump and figure it out?
