Hired a $5k freelancer who ghosted us after 2 days
Three weeks ago I brought on a freelance copywriter from Upwork for a big client launch. Paid $5k upfront because their portfolio looked amazing. They did one email sequence, then stopped replying to my messages entirely. I wasted a whole week waiting on them before I finally found a replacement. Now I only pay half upfront and keep the rest until the work is done. Has anyone else had a freelancer just vanish mid project like that?

Five grand for two days of work. That's one expensive email sequence, basically works out to a fancy dinner per sentence. Hope the one you got was real good, because the second half isn't coming.

Read a study once that said like 40% of freelancers on those platforms dip out after getting paid big money upfront. $5k is brutal though, thats a real kick in the teeth. The math on that email sequence has to sting every time you think about it lol. At least you learned the half upfront rule the hard way like most of us do. That kind of ghosting is way too common now, especially with the bigger price tags involved.
