I finally asked a client why they picked us over a bigger agency

Met with a client in Denver last week after we finished their project. When I asked why they chose our small shop, he said, 'You guys answered the phone on the second ring every single time.' That hit me hard. We've spent so much time on our website and case studies, but that basic thing made the real difference. It made me check our call logs, and we actually missed 15% of calls last month. How do you all make sure you never miss a client call, especially when you're out on site visits?

My friend hired a student just to answer calls.

Wait, isn't that just a receptionist job? Students need work, but that's a basic admin role, not some special student gig. Calling it "just to answer calls" makes it sound like a throwaway task, but handling calls well is a real skill. Your friend hired a part-time receptionist, and they happen to be in school.

Hiring a student for that seems pretty smart, actually.
