Wasted 6 months tracking billable hours wrong in Harvest

About 8 months ago I found out I was logging all my team's hours under one generic project code in Harvest instead of splitting by client. The tip off was when I ran a quarterly profit report and it showed I supposedly made $40k off a single $2k retainer. My bookkeeper called me out and I felt like an idiot. Has anyone else had that moment where you realize you've been setting up your time tracking backwards from day one?

Small correction on that timeline - if you found out 8 months ago and been doing it wrong for 6 months, that math puts you at 14 months of wrong time tracking total. Not trying to be nitpicky, just saying because I've done similar mental math slip-ups before. The real kicker is when you go back and try to fix those old entries. I spent a whole weekend once untangling client hours from a generic "misc" code because I thought it would save time. Spoiler alert: it didn't save anything. At least you caught it before tax season or a client audit. Some people never figure it out and just keep billing funky numbers forever.

Well now, I think veraramirez might have that timeline a bit off. If you found out 8 months ago and it was 6 months of wrong tracking, that means you caught it two months after it started, not fourteen.
