A client told me my reports were too detailed. I fought it at first but I was wrong.
I had a client in Phoenix who kept saying my weekly reports were too long. He wanted just the numbers and nothing else. I thought he was being lazy, but after he threatened to leave I tried his way for two months. I cut everything down to one page with only key metrics and a short note. His engagement went way up and he started actually using the data. Now I ask every new client how they want their reports formatted before I send the first one. Has anyone else had to change their reporting style to keep a client happy?

Yeah I know exactly what you mean, I had a similar wake up call a few years back with a client who hated my detailed breakdowns. I was so stubborn about it at first, thought they just didn't want to do the work. But once I stripped it all down to the basics, they actually read the thing and stopped asking me questions every week.

Was hard giving up the complicated presentations I liked making, but clients just want the straight answer. Cut everything down to a single page of bullet points and suddenly they were actually paying attention. Funny how less really is more when it comes to getting people to hear what you're saying.
