Showerthought: I read that air fryers can cut cooking oil use by 75%

Saw that stat in a cooking newsletter from The Kitchn last week. Makes me wonder how much oil I was really using before, especially with stuff like frozen chicken tenders. Anyone else have a go-to recipe that uses way less oil than the package says?

Actually, that stat is for replacing deep frying. Most frozen foods are already par-fried at the factory. The real oil savings come from cooking fresh stuff you'd normally pan-fry with a lot of oil.

My buddy tried his air fryer on some homemade chicken strips and was shocked by how little oil he used compared to his usual pan-frying mess.

That "75% less oil" stat is wild, but I bet it's mostly from not deep-frying frozen foods anymore.
