Shoutout to the subs over dubs after I watched both versions of Frieren
I watched the first 6 episodes dubbed and then switched to subs on a friend's push and the jokes actually landed and the quiet moments hit way harder, so what show did switching versions totally change for you?
Man, I used to be a total dub defender and say the voice acting was just as good. Then I went back and watched Cowboy Bebop subbed after years of only knowing the dub, and Spike's sarcasm just hit different in Japanese. The dry jokes in English felt a little flat once I heard the original timing. Same thing happened with the quiet scenes in Mushishi, the dub felt like it was rushing the mood. I still think dubs are fine for background watching but you lose something in the small moments.
