Wasted 3 hours on a dryer that just needed the lint screen cleaned

Spent a Saturday morning tearing apart a customer's dryer, checking the thermal fuse and belt, only to realize the lint screen was packed solid with fabric softener sheets. Has anyone else dug into a simple fix and felt like a total goof after?

Oh man, I've absolutely been there. I mean, it's like you go in ready for a big repair and it turns out to be the most basic thing you could miss. I'd say about half the dryer calls I've dealt with end up being a clogged screen or vent line, it's almost embarrassing every time. My advice is to always check the simplest stuff first, even if you feel dumb doing it. Just pop that screen out and hold it up to the light before you even grab a screwdriver, saves so much headache.

I read somewhere that a lot of dryer fires actually start from lint buildup, which makes all these simple fixes feel more serious. It stuck with me because you never think about that stuff until it causes real trouble. My neighbor had a similar issue last year, took the whole machine apart before realizing the vent hose was kinked behind the dryer. Pretty frustrating to waste an afternoon on something you could have fixed in ten minutes. Every time I do laundry now I make a point to check the vent line first, it's just good sense. Sometimes the boring maintenance stuff is what keeps everything running smooth.
