A colorist in Tucson told me to stop fixing skin tones, best note I ever got

On a wedding edit last month, she watched me spend 40 minutes fighting a groom's orange face and said "just match the bounce light, not the tan." Switched to balancing the reflector in the frame and the whole sequence fell into place in ten minutes. Anyone else gotten corrections that simplify their whole workflow?

...and here I was thinking my whole job was just turning everyone into a slightly less burnt Cheeto. That note about bounce light vs tan actually makes so much sense now, because I spent a whole engagement session chasing a guy's face through every color slider like it was a video game boss fight. Turns out the real answer was just letting the warm light in the frame do its thing and my skin tone fixes went from forty minutes to like five. Now I just pretend the bride's mother is the one giving me notes and suddenly I'm way more humble about what actually needs fixing...
