Hit 4,000 forum posts last night and my first thought was about a dial-up modem in 2003
I was up at 1am replying to a thread about weird smells and my post count rolled over to 4,000, which I never thought I'd see back when I joined a hobby forum in 2003 on a 56k connection in Dayton. Back then a single reply took me ten minutes to load and my mom yelled at me to get off the phone line, so I mostly lurked. Now I type answers on my phone while waiting for coffee and the count just sneaks up on you. Anyone else remember when being online meant tying up the whole house, or am I just old?

That dial-up screech is burned into my brain forever. My mom had a second line just for the internet and still got mad when I tied it up past ten. 56k meant a single thread page took forever, so I'd open like ten tabs and read them one by one while the connection chugged. Wild that we went from that to typing replies on a phone in a coffee line.
