My uncle swore by ATF in the gas tank for cleaning injectors

I put a quart in my 2002 Civic last month and it ran rough for a week before smoothing out. Anyone else have a mechanic relative pushing weird tricks that actually worked?

That rough running was probably the crud breaking loose before it burned off. Glad it worked out in the end, must have been stressful waiting it out.

Read somewhere that old fuel can turn into this gummy varnish stuff, especially in carburetors. Heard some people swear by Seafoam for breaking that down, never used it myself though. Betty down the street had a similar issue with her old lawnmower, sat for two winters before she got it going again. Felt bad for her, she was out there for a good hour before it finally smoothed out.
