Surprised to learn how many people skip oil changes by 2,000+ miles
I was reading through some industry data last night and found out something that really surprised me. Almost 40% of drivers delay their oil changes by over 2,000 miles past the recommended interval. Do you think modern synthetic oils make that a safe gamble, or are we just seeing a lot of blown engines waiting to happen?

Honestly, I've pushed mine almost 3,000 miles past before and the car still ran fine with synthetic. Ngl, I think a lot of people just forget and get away with it more than the car guys want to admit.

My dad was a mechanic for 30 years and he always told me you had to change oil exactly at 3,000 miles or the engine would sludge up and die. I really believed that until I read some actual studies last year. Tbh, modern synthetic oils are way more stable than the conventional stuff from the 80s, and most car manuals now say 5,000 to 7,500 miles is fine. Ngl, I still change mine around 4,000 just for peace of mind, but I don't panic if I go a little over anymore. Honestly, the bigger risk is probably people who ignore the oil level entirely and run it dry.
