Just got back from the Lost Coast Trail and the tide charts are no joke

We started at Mattole Beach last Thursday and almost got pinned against a bluff near Sea Lion Gulch because we misread the schedule. The high tide window was only about 2 hours long that afternoon. Had to scramble up some sketchy rocks to wait it out. Anyone have a good app or method for planning daily mileage around those narrow passes?

Remember my buddy telling me about his trip there last fall. He got stuck in almost the same spot because his paper chart was for the wrong time zone. They ended up having to drop their packs and swim a shallow channel at the last second, it was a total mess. He swears by the Tides Near Me app now because it uses your exact GPS spot. He plans each day backward from the tightest low-tide window, even if it means some super short or long hiking days.

Ever try hiking with a soggy pack?

They had to swim with their packs off? That sounds like a full-on emergency situation. Paper charts seem way too risky for a trail that serious. Planning backward from the tight spots is the only way to go.
